PMI-CP Communication Gaps, Resistance, and Recovery

Study PMI-CP Communication Gaps, Resistance, and Recovery: key concepts, common traps, and exam decision cues.

On this page

Communication recovery is a real PMI-CP skill. The exam expects you to detect communication gaps, understand why resistance is occurring, and use structured recovery actions before the situation hardens into claims, delay, or distrust.

Stronger answers diagnose the gap and repair the system around it. Weak answers repeat the same communication approach more loudly.

Stronger answers usually do

  • use feedback loops to expose communication breakdowns early
  • identify the root cause of resistance or misunderstanding
  • design action plans that address the actual gap, not just the visible symptom
  • adjust methods when the current approach is clearly not working

Common traps

  • interpreting resistance only as stubbornness instead of a communication problem
  • escalating before understanding the real issue
  • responding with more volume instead of better clarity
  • leaving communication recovery vague
