PgMP Syllabus & Domain Map

Official-source-aligned PgMP scope map with domains, topic order, and study priorities.

Use this page as the coverage map for PgMP®. On PMExams, the guide is organized around PMI’s current exam-topic weighting table so your reading path matches the major domains that actually drive the exam.

Current PgMP topic weighting

  • Strategic Program Alignment: 15%
  • Program Life Cycle Management: 44%
  • Business Alignment: 11%
  • Stakeholder Engagement: 16%
  • Governance: 14%

Chapter map

  • Strategic Program Alignment covers strategic fit, the program case, roadmaps, boundaries, and early priority choices.
  • Program Life Cycle Management covers initiation, planning, component coordination, control, transition, and closeout logic. This is the largest domain and should take the largest share of your time.
  • Business Alignment covers benefits logic, investment reasoning, business-case discipline, and value-based prioritization.
  • Stakeholder Engagement covers sponsor alignment, influence, expectation management, resistance, and the engagement moves that preserve program support.
  • Governance covers decision rights, gates, oversight, escalation, reporting, and assurance.

How to study from the weighting

  • spend the most time in Program Life Cycle Management
  • do not neglect Strategic Program Alignment, Stakeholder Engagement, or Governance, because those domains often decide scenario quality
  • treat Business Alignment as the value lens that explains why the rest of the program decisions matter
